Where Can I Serve?
Jesus told us, his disciples, to make disciples of all nations. One of the most important values of First United Methodist Church is our mission to the world. It begins in our own community, and spreads overseas to every nation. First UMC members are involved in a variety of ministries from things as simple as washing the church vehicles, to preparing the church bulletins.
FUMC is thrilled to be part of the spread of God’s kingdom in the Grand Valley and around the world. Many congregation members are on teams supporting feeding students from R-5 High School each Wednesday. We support many local non-profits with our make-a-change monthly offering. Our youth ministries is active in annual mission trips both in the United States and internationally. A youth work team just got back from a mission site in Peru in the summer of 2013. We encourage all of our people to respond to God’s call for laborers, whether it means that they move to a foreign country or live and minister in our own community.
Children’s & Youth Ministries
Children and youth are nurtured and supported here and treated as vital members of our faith family. Through worship, sunday school, mission outreach, study and discipleship, our young people have opportunities to be heard and to lead. This is also an area where our members can practice their spiritual gifts by mentoring and donating their time.
God-honoring worship is something we strive for. Many church members get involved in our music ministry in the choir or the jubilee bells. These volunteers are an important part of the ministry of FUMC, using their talents and gifts to glorify God.
Greeters & Ushers
The usher & greeter team at FUMC fills an important role. They are involved in directing attendees to their seats, ensuring the safety of the building during services, guiding traffic, helping visitors, answering questions, providing direction, unlocking doors, locking doors, and generally ensuring that the service can proceed problem-free. The usher team is a servant-hearted group of men and women whose ministry is integral to church life.
Media & Technology
Using media to spread the gospel is a privilege of FUMC. In an age of widespread technology, we have a stewardship to use these tools as best as possible for kingdom purposes. All of our weekly sermons are uploaded to our website. We also maintain an active Facebook for additional church communication.
Some choose to take extensive training to help support others in times of trial. A steven minister can be a great support to anyone needing a prayer partner and needing support.
United Methodist Women
The UMW of this faith family meets regularly to educate themselves on global issues and gives generously to a number of causes. They craft and lunch together throughout the week to prepare for their Holiday House Bazaar each year, where proceeds directly benefit our Grand Valley community as well as international causes.
